Malachite can help in revealing the truth within us and bring to the surface that which is unknown or unseen to the conscious mind. When used in meditated it will draw out and reflect whatever is awaiting spiritual growth. It also helps balance and release the debris that is revealed. HISTORY

The name Malachite may come from the Greek word malakee or malache, signifying the resemblance of Mallow leaves, or from the Greek word malakos, meaning soft. Even though it is a stone that holds its strength, Malachite opens your heart which may relate to how the Greeks chose the name honoring its gentle side.

The Greeks weren’t the only ones to fall for this magnificent green stone, the Egyptians too were smitten and would mine the green gem of the earth from the mines of Suez as far back as 4000 BC. Ancient Greeks and Egyptians both adored the spectacular color of Malachite when worked into jewelry. It has such a regal air about it and looks glorious when paired with every different skin tone and hair color. Egyptians found a thousand uses for Malachite.  They ground it down to pigment for Cleopatra eye makeup and adorned their wrists and necks with this brilliant gleaming gemstone and even believed it helped with fertility. Ancient Egyptians, Greeks, and Mayans revered Malachite for its healing and protective qualities, using it for amulets and eye makeup.

As time ticked into the Middle Ages, Malachite hadn’t fallen by the wayside or lost its magic. In the Middle Ages, Malachite was used for protection of the evil eye and as “medicine” for stomach ailments. They also wore Malachite as a protective talisman for travelers to ward off negative energies and illness. Russian czars used Malachite for ornaments and paneling for their castles and intricate inlay work in their palaces.

CLEANSING AND CHARGING

Keeping Malachite cleansed is simple and beneficial to ensure it stays at the very top of its power. Simply use some warm soapy water and a soft cloth to clean and dry it. Wash your Malachite every few weeks or after a particularly taxing day or week if you feel the need.

Malachite also loves and has a strong bond with nature, and it craves being cradled in the embrace of the earth from time to time. Bury it in the garden, beneath a tree for a night to let it soak up Mother Nature’s spirit.
