Comes from the names “kanta” meaning “beloved” and “Sanskrit chandra” meaning “moon”. Origin: “loved by the moon” which gave it its name. The Roman natural historian Pliny attributed magical powers to Moonstone, believing it was born from solidified rays of the moon.
