HISTORY
Sodalite has been traced back to the Caral People (2600-2000 B.C.) near Lima for trading purposes. Sodalite is often mistaken for Lapis Lazuli, because of its rich blue tone. As early as 2500 B.C., Sodalite was being traded by the Caral people of Peru, as well as by the indigenous people of Tiwanaku in modern-day Bolivia. Sodalite gets its name from the rich sodium content within the stone.
Discovered in 1806, Sodalite was described and analyzed by the Scottish doctor and mineralogist Thomas Thomson in 1811 the Ilimaussaq complex in Greenland. In 1891, Sodalite gained importance as an ornamental stone. The most celebrated source is the Princess Sodalite Mine just east of Bancroft, Ontario. During a diplomatic meeting in Canada, the the Princess of Wales, wife of King George V, fell in love with the stone. The Princess of Wales ordered a very large quantity of Sodalite to the United Kingdom. 130 tons of Sodalite was shipped to England to decorate her London residence, Marlborough House. The popularity of Sodality grew very strongly after that.

CHAKRAS
Sodalite is linked to the Third Eye and Throat Chakra. It’s a highly spiritual stone that invites the wearer to strengthen their connections so they feel the grounding force of Mother Earth beneath their feet, even when turning their eyes to look higher into the heavens above. Both are linked to the upper part of the body which focuses on the mind down to the neck.
Sodalite resonates with the Third eye Chakra, which governs intuition, perception, and inner wisdom. It directs our sight and everyday awareness of the world. Our consciousness is located here, and we relate to ourselves through this Chakra. If your Third eye is blocked, you may experience a lack of intuitive insight, confusion, anxiety, and a narrow perspective, making it hard to trust your gut feelings or see the bigger picture. You might also feel disconnected from your inner wisdom, leading to a lack of clarity, poor memory, and difficulty with creativity and imagination.
Sodalite stimulates this energy centre to deepen spiritual awareness, enhance mental clarity, and promote a stronger connection to your inner guidance. By clearing and activating this energy center, you can more easily access your inner wisdom. It commands the energy flow within the body. Our thoughts and internal communications within ourselves are healthy and vibrant. We are open to new ideas, dreams, and visions, and can control the flow of energy within all the Chakras.
The Throat Chakra is in essence a pressure valve that allows the energy from the other Chakras to be expressed. If it is blocked, or out of balance, it can affect the health of the other Chakras. A blocked Throat Chakra can lead to difficulty expressing thoughts and emotions, Fear of speaking your truth or anxiety about speaking leading to impulsive or excessive speech, or an extreme refusal to speak. It can lead to unexpressed emotions which could lead to resentment, frustration, or sadness. You could also experience a lack of authenticity and struggle to express your true self leading to General anxiety.
Sodalite resonates with blue crystal energy which stimulates the Throat Chakra, the voice of the body and assists in opening this crucial energy center. When the Throat Chakra is in balance and open, it allows for the expression of what we think and what we feel. We can communicate our ideas, beliefs, and emotions, bringing our personal truth out into the world. Sodalite being is a Throat Chakra stone enhances self-esteem and heightens your inner trust, it invites you to stop being afraid to use your voice and to stop second-guessing your own intuition. Working with Sodalite helps us expand this communicative center to vocalize the internal thoughts we may not be able to understand at times. Interpreting others is a challenge, but interpreting our own feelings can seem like even more of a challenge. Sodalite allows the energy from the lower Chakras to flow freely to your Throat Chakra enabling free expression and natural release.
CLEANSING AND CHARGING
It’s essential to be delicate with Sodalite as it can be quite brittle. It’s recommended to keep the stone separate from harder gems in your collection. Also, the crystals’ reflective surface and step-like structure tend to gather dust, so it’s a good idea to keep your stone covered when not using it. Protect Sodalite from harsh chemicals and prolonged exposure to direct sunlight, which can fade its colors and diminish its energetic qualities.
Sodalite is purified by holding the stone under running water for a few minutes or immersing it in demineralized water for an hour or two.
Your Sodalite might also benefit from being wrapped in silk for a sublime recharge.
Charging your Sodalite can be as simple as placing it on a selenite charging plate or it can be placed on an Amethyst geode or a quartz cluster.
Leaving it outside in the moonlight or on a window ledge overnight will allow the power of lunar rays to recharge it and cleanse it of negative energy.
You can also utilize the healing powers of Mother Earth by burying your stone under a tree or in a favorite spot in your yard for 24 hours. Make sure to use a cloth bag or other natural covering to ensure dirt does not get into your Sodalite’s cracks and crevices.
