Regular cleaning, cleansing, recharging and proper storage helps maintain your stunning vibrant and healing Gemstone Jewellery. Proper maintenance of your Gemstone jewellery helps maintain its brilliance, prevents tarnish, and extends the life of your favorite pieces.
Cleaning and Polishing Your Wire Jewellery:
Polishing:
Use a reputable polishing pad. Use the pad with clean dry hands or wearing latex gloves. Be careful when rubbing your wire wrapped jewellery as the wire could break or bend easily if mishandled. Polish the beads slowly and carefully with light pressure, trying not to move or spin them much.
Cleaning:
Do NOT use chemical jewellery cleaners as they may ruin your Gemstones or remove the shine on the metal. Cleanse using slightly warm water, an ultra soft toothbrush and mild dish soap (Blue Dawn works well). Do not leave jewellery sitting in water or apply soap directly, foam the brush, then apply instead. Be very slow and careful to avoid damaging or untwisting the wires. Be very careful when foaming up the stones as softer semi precious stones can be damaged by the bristles. Avoid soaking gemstones in water for extended periods, some gemstones are more prone to water damage than others. Rinse jewellery thoroughly using slightly warm water to remove all soap. Use a paper towel to gently dry your jewellery as much as possible or a hair drier and gently blow cold or warm air on low at your jewellery . NEVER blow hot air at your jewellery because the Gemstones may crack from the heat. Always dry thoroughly before storing or wearing.
Care Instructions For Your Wire Wrapped Jewellery:
- Do not drop, bend, untwist or try to take out the Gemstones
- Put your perfumes and lotions on BEFORE your put on your jewellery. There might be a reaction between the chemicals and the Gemstone or wires that might cause an allergic rash on your skin
- After you take your wire wrapped jewellery off, wipe it carefully with a clean cloth and store it following the instructions below
- Store your wire Precious and Semi Precious Gemstone jewellery in a clean dry place away from direct sun exposure. Sun light can possibly change the colour of your stones
- Keep your wire jewellery away from the rest of your jewellery. The metal will stay shiny longer and it will help avoid possibility of scratches and damage to your Gemstones
- Keep away from children and pets
- Avoid wearing your pieces in salt or chemically treated water
- Avoid wearing your jewellery around harsh chemicals and cleaning products
- Remove wire wrapped jewellery before intense activities.
How To Clean Your Sterling Silver And 14k Gold-filled Jewellery:
Cleaning Sterling Silver or 14k gold-filled jewellery is surprisingly simple. All you need is a soft cotton cloth, warm water, and mild soap. Start by dampening the cloth with warm water and adding a few drops of mild soap. Gently rub the cloth in a circular motion on your jewellery’s surface and then rinse it off with warm water. Be sure to check specific Gemstone properties as certain gemstones are very porous and might degrade in water. Gemstone properties can be found on our “Gemstone” page. If your piece has a particularly fragile Gemstone, it is best to avoid prolonged exposure to water. Finally, dry your piece thoroughly with a soft cotton cloth. Voila! Clean jewellery that looks like it was just crafted yesterday!
If your jewellery still looks a bit dull, you can take it a step further by polishing with a jewellery polishing cloth which you will receive with every purchase. Gently rub the piece in a circular motion and watch as it sparkles back to life! It’s that easy!
